Simon's Story - Prescom Construction's owner

I am the proud owner and Principle Builder at Prescom Constructions. A driven yet down-to-earth building company specialising in high-end residential builds, custom home renovations and extensions.

I grew up in Batemans Bay on the South Coast of NSW. Being close to the ocean, I developed a passion for fishing, surfing, waterskiing and boating. I also had a desire to fly aircraft and began a cadetship at Moruya Aero Club when I was fifteen.

Through my high school years, I worked at Eagle Boys Pizza and was promoted to store manager at the age of 17. This was more than just a job to pay for aeronautical studies, aircraft fuel and hire, although it sure did help! This was a place where my admiration and respect for the owners encourage me to run my own business one day. This fast-paced environment also taught me that customer satisfaction is ultimately the most important measure of success. If customers are coming back for more, you got it right!

On leaving school, I joined the Royal Australian Air Force at Tamworth Airforce Base. I struggled with the change in lifestyle, especially the unpredictable nature of the training and being far from the people I loved.

So, I returned to Sydney and worked as a labourer in our family business. My family has always been in the building industry and I was raised around small businesses. I learned the importance of only taking on work that I am truly passionate about and surrounding myself with good people. Looking after people who look after you in return is the best way to grow a reputable building business. Early on, I made a heartfelt moral decision about the type of builder I wanted to be. I live and work by those values.

I realised quickly that construction is the industry I belong in. Currently all five of my siblings own their own businesses in different areas of construction. We are a big family and are all passionate about what we do!

On moving to Canberra ACT in 2005, I met a residential builder, Mark Osarek, under whom I did my apprenticeship in Certificate 3 Carpentry and Joinery. I shared his passion for creating outstanding homes and I wanted to learn from the best. I still remain close friends with Mark to this day! I completed my apprenticeship in 2009 and continued my studies with Certificate 4 of Building and Construction which I completed in 2015.

Since I started this business in 2012, I have gained experience with like-minded builders as a foreman and leading hand carpenter. I continually develop my skills and enthusiastically accept the role of the key decision maker on-site.

I happily live with my wife Magdalena and two children within the community that I am proud to work for.
